No cell signals. Run of bad luck. No Main Event – NYC Halloween instead!

31 10 2008

So…. No place to post from but that random window out of the way. To continue, after the break, that same guy cals a huge raise from me again – me with QQ, hime with AQ. I’m ahead, so I’m happy. He ends up with a flush using his # and 4 cards on the board. Bad luck again.

I ended up busting out of that event. Tried a few others with similar results – either bad cards or bad luck. Played well but wasn’t meant to be. Last hand last night was all-in big re-raise with KQ, called by Q9. Good. Flod had a Q. Fine. Turn, fine. Then a 9 on the river to give him 2 pair and I’m out.

So instead of chicago, I last minute decided to head to NYC for Halloween, hanging with some old and new friends, and going to my friend Deepa’s 30th birthday bash.

Yay.

2 hours in – was looking good until….

30 10 2008

Things were going fine. Not great, not bad. Then someone short on chips went all-in. I was in the big blind and looked down at AA. Sure – call. He showed 77. I was more than 90% ahead. Unfortunately he hit the right 4 cards of 5 to get a straight.

Now I’m hurting a bit. Manageable buti’ll need some good cards and good luck to get back in a comfortable position.

So goes luck.

More than anything, this post serves as a test. Do I remeber how to post from my phone? So far, so good.

I arrived at Chicago’s Midway airport last night, worked late from my hotel room finishing up a few things, and headed over to the hugely expanded Hammond Horseshe. Not that I would know, never having been here.

Apparently there’s little to know cell service in the casino. As I write I’m at a window overlooking the lake and chicago in the distance. This the only service I could find. I registered for a noon multi-table tournament. 1 of every 10 players (the top 10% of finishers) will win a full entry into the “Main Event” that I’m hoping to play in. It starts tomorrow. Depending on how things go, I’ll do this on and off today, maybe playing some cash games to “earn” more money for these entries.

If it doesn’t work out, I’ll either stay in Chicago, go back to Atlanta to hang with my aunt in Athens, or – just maybe – head to NYC to go to my friend Deepa’s 30th bash and see my friend Kathleen (among others). I do enjoy last minute planning.

More later. Happy Thursday!

WSOP Circuit Event this week – Hammond, IN (Chicagoland)

29 10 2008

So I decided to hit this tournament after all. I’m not currently staffed on a project, had the potential vacation days booked, have had some decent luck and play lately, so why not?

At the Horseshoe Hammond, in Hammond, Indiana, just outside of Chicago. I’m headed up tonight, will play tomorrow in some satellites in hopes of winning my entry into the main event.  If I do, that event is all day Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. If not, maybe I’ll head back to Atlanta, maybe I’ll stay in Chicago.  It’s nice having flexible travel plans due to the generosity of my step-mother who offered me Delta buddy passes.

I’ll post updates along the way if I can remember how to from my phone.

Otherwise, soon enough.

Event I hope to win into is:

No Rebuy/Add-ons

$5,150 entry

The Next Big Poker Trip – In the Caribbean, All Expenses Paid

14 10 2008

So I’m still considering a trip to the WSOP Circuit Event outside of Chicago for Halloween Weekend…..

But more importantly, I just won my package into the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure.  All expenses paid, including:

- $10,000 Main Event tournament entry

- Airfare

- 1 week accommodation at the Atlantis Hotel and Casino in Nassau, The Bahamas

- Food and drink while there (or at least 10 fat bills towards covering it)

January 4-11. Tourney is 5th-10th.

Wish me luck.

It’s not exactly my kind of vacation spot being a mega-resort and all, but hey – all expenses paid? I’m in.
